Regardless of what you think about local TV, there is no denying the importance of the role they play in the event of an emergency. I am confident in saying that local broadcasters saved lives when a tornado struck Moore OK in May.
This is a short video produced jointly by the University of Oklahoma and the Broadcast Education Association on the role local broadcasters play as first informers during an emergency, specifically the Moore tornado.
As recent activity has resulted in multi-billion dollar mergers and acquisitions in the local television industry, it is my hope these mega-ownership groups remember one of the main reasons they have a license. It's not about utilizing an increased station portfolio to leverage yourselves for increased revenue...your number one objective remains the same...keeping residents safe and informed!
